Guest Farm Concept E-mail

Uganda is a land of beauty also known famously as the ‘Pearl of Africa. The Equator cuts across different vegetation types, ranging from tropical rain forests, to open grassland.  Western Uganda is home to the Western arm of the Great Rift Valley. It is here that parks and major landforms are found. One notable gem in this attractive region is Fort Portal town about three and a half hours drive from Kampala.

It is this beauty and friendly climate that in 1992 attracted Mariam and Stefan Kluge, into buying a 70 acres piece of land near Fort Portal. It does not take one long to notice exquisiteness of the land and scenery. The magical mount Rwenzori on a clear day offers an enticing view of its snow capped peaks.

The farm is surrounded by a papyrus swamp and a tropical rain forest which is the home for several families of Black and White Columbus and Grey Velvet monkeys.

Over the years Mariam and Stefan Kluge have developed the land into a farm and planted a big number of trees and flowers of various varieties thus making this place so unique and colorful. Today Kluge’s Guest Farm is a nature lover’s site to behold. Indeed, the intriguing combination of swamp, forest and open land makes the place attractive for a wide variety of birds thus making it an ideal place for bird watchers.

Kluge’s Guest Farm is a mixed farm with cattle, goats, horses, chicken and turkeys and vegetables, fruits, matooke and other crops are grown, thus meeting most of  Kluge’s Guest Farm’s fresh produce needs.

Guests will also find fish ponds (currently under rehabilitation) with a variety of fishes such as tilapia and mirror carps.

Today after years of careful planning the owners evolved a vision of combining farming with tourism. The combination of the attractions on the farm and the Fort Portal area as a whole makes a guests visit memorable.

Fort portal boasts of attractive characteristics such as :
•    Outstanding landscape
•    Pleasant and friendly climate
•    Gateway to a number of tourist attractions in Western Uganda

The year 2005 therefore, witnessed the establishment of Kluge’s Guest Farm in Kabahango Fort Portal.
